War and Peace…. Contrasting Behaviours

with No Comments

Perspectives are so important.  I, like most children in my generation, was brought up to think competitively.    I played a lot of sports.  In sports, you are always sizing up your competition.  Looking for their weaknesses.   Looking for ways to penetrate their defences.    Because of this, it has been quite the journey trying to figure out what it is to not be competitive.   To find a better way.  What does that even look like?

Below are just a few thoughts on the subject.  For me, re-phasing things in this way has really helped.   I review them often, especially when I pick up a newspaper or catch a news headline that wants to trick me into feeling fear, anger or despair.   Perspective.

When at war:

A gift is not a gift.

A gift creates obligation.   A debt.

“Beware the Trojan Horse”.  Total destruction.

When at Peace?

A gift is a gift.

If you want to reciprocate, or at least express gratitude, you will be given more gifts

The amount of abundance that can be experienced is infinite

When at war

Trust NOONE!

When at Peace?

Trust is not really a “concept”

It just is.

When at War:

We size up our enemy

We spot their weaknesses

We attack the most vulnerable

When at Peace?

We seek “common ground”.

We identify strengths

We seek to magnify and bask in the radiance
